Spelt flour is milled from the ancient wheat grain. It tastes very similar to common flour, with a pleasant, slightly sweet and nutty flavour. Spelt has high water solubility, so it's nutrients are easily absorbed by the body. White spelt flour is the spelt flour with most of the bran and germ removed. Our white spelt flour is fine and light, making it ideal to use for a light, fluffy result in pastries, bread and cakes. It is also delicious in homemade bread, pizza bases or chapati. This versatile, all-purpose flour can replace some or all of the white flour in your favourite recipes.
Spelt flour requires a little less liquid than wheat flour so make sure to note this down when using spelt flour in the kitchen. As spelt flour is a plain flour rather than a self-raising flour, it will be necessary to include a raising agent when cooking with it, such as yeast or baking powder.
